New Orleans Landscape by Contemporary Kristye Addison Dudley

St Charles Street © Kristye Addison Dudley
8" x 10"  Watercolor and Ink on Paper Purchase Prints

My husband and I enjoyed a Music Festival each night during our trip to New Orleans. The nights were loud and full of dancing. The days, however, were filled with relaxing walks through the Garden District. The old trees stretched across quite streets and wrapped us in light shadows in the hot summer heat. We had such an amazing trip, we can't wait to go back.

St Charles Trolley Landscape by Contemporary Kristye Addison Dudley

St Charles Trolley © Kristye Addison Dudley
10" x 8" Watercolor and Ink on Paper Purchase Prints
This is the second sketch from our vacation in New Orleans this summer. We were able to walk out of our hotel and catch the trolley right on St Charles Street. This historic street is one of the main routes of the Mardi Gras Parade and has traces of beads in the tree lined streets all year round. The sights and sounds of the city were mesmerizing. We can't wait to go back.

New Orleans Porch View by Contemporary Kristye Addison Dudley

New Orleans Porch View © Kristye Addison Gallery
8" x 10" Watercolor and Ink on Paper Purchase Prints
In July my husband and I took a much needed vacation without our toddlers to New Orleans. While there we stayed in the quiet Garden District neighborhood. A great mix of old architecture, history, charm and friendly local vibe. One afternoon I found a cool spot to sketch and this is my first sketch of my great view under a shaded tree.

Toy Fire Truck by Contemporary Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

Toy Fire Truck © Kristye Addison Dudley
10" x 8" Watercolor on Paper Purchase Prints

I am working on a unique portrait. A portrait of a 2 year old little girl and 5 year old little boy siblings' favorite toys. This is their mother's way to preserve this very sweet time in their lives. As I prepared for this work, it was very easy to find inspiration since my living room is usually sprinkled with the playthings of my 2 year old boy and 4 year old little girl.

I'll post more on the commission as it progresses.

Be blessed,
Kristye

Dragonfly Family @ Kristye Addison Dudley
10" x 8" Watercolor on Canvas Paper Purchase Original or Prints

This watercolor was created as a study for a commission. I really like the way the wings feel light and transparent. This would be a bright and whimsical addition to a child's room.

SOLD - Clemson University Baseball Painting by Contemporary Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

SOLD - Clemson Baseball © Kristye Addison Dudley
10" x 8" Acrylic on Canvas | Purchase Prints

During my June painting challenge, I was able to create a few special paintings for some deserving Dad's. This father's day commission for was for a true Clemson University Baseball fan. Painted in acrylic with a palette knife.

I absolutely love surprises and giving gifts. This shipment had to be marked "DO NOT OPEN NICK". There was a good chance that the husband would see the package first. And guess what? He did. Nick sent a text message to his wife to see if he could just peak at it. Of course she made him wait!

So fortunate to have been able to be apart of such a personal present.

SOLD - Dragonfly in Flight by Contemporary Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

SOLD - Drgonfly in Flight © Kristye Addison Dudley
8" x 10" Watercolor on Paper | Purchase Prints

During the month of June, I was encouraging my readers to send ideas for paintings. This painting was created as a study for a larger commission. One of my friends saw it and was drawn to it. Her sister just found out her cancer was in remission and this dragonfly will now be a symbol of her second chance. The reader said the following about this painting.
"It will be our "logo" for God making her new again!!! "
It is such an honor to be apart of such a joyous time. I wish her continued blessings and health.Humbled and grateful,
Kristye

Tropical Sunset Landscape by Contemporary Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

"Sunset" - WIP © Kristye Addison Dudley
10"x8" Acrylic on Canvas Board
Day 7 - 25 Days Commission Challenge and I have been so overwhelmed at the support. I challenged myself and my friends to help me commission 25 paintings in 25 days. It's Day 7 and I have sold/commissioned 7 paintings.

I am working on this Sunset pictured above for a dear childhood friend. It's an honor to share my work with so many. The collector above wrote a note to me saying "Hope you are enjoying your gift". What a lovely way to think about art. It is something we should enjoy and I am truly full of joy.

New June Art Challenge by Contemporary Abstract Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

Hello Everyone,

I have been working diligently on a very large 7ft by 3ft commission and it's almost complete. Now I am gearing up for my next round of new paintings.

During the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge in April, I really worked hard to paint every day on new artwork. During May, my family traveled and although I was busy painting the commission, I got out of my daily painting/posting routine.

So I think it's time for a new challenge! For the rest of the month of June, 25 days, I will be painting very small work, 4" x 6" to 8" x 10", and selling each one for only $50! My goal is to sell them all! I know that's a huge goal, but I might as well try right?

So if you don't have a Father's Day gift yet, this maybe just the personal gift you are looking for (message requests to me).

Biplane Military Painting by Contemporary Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

"The Kaydet" © Kristye Addison Dudley
10" x 8" Acrylic on Canvas Board - Purchase Original or Prints
I hope you had a wonderful Memorial Day, we had a great day and we took our children to the local Aviation Museum and saw the Stearman PT-130 "Kaydet". It's a WWII biplane trainer used by the Army Air Forces.

As an Air Force Wife, daughter and daughter-in-law of veterans, Memorial Day holds a very special place in my heart. My husband and I miss our fathers very much and as we prepare for Father's day, it felt only right to honor them this way.

I am working on a large commission and at the end of my session I decided to create a work with the colors on my pallet. It was a fun challenge and I decided to paint wildflowers and then I started painted in purple. So violets appeared in the painting too. It just might be my next challenge.

Mountains Watercolor Landscape Painting by Contemporary Figurative Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

"Road Trip" © Kristye Addison Dudley
5" x 3" Pen and Watercolor on Paper

Back to posting art daily after a vacation. We traveled from Georgia to Virginia to Ohio and back to Georgia. It was a long ride with a 21 month old and a 4 year old, but it was a beautiful ride. The mountains were breathtaking. There is something so amazing about being so high on a mountain. This is a sketch of the blue ridge mountains in pen and watercolor.

And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.  Matthew 14:23
Have a blessed week,
Kristye

Pop Art Portrait by Contemporary Figurative Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

It's A Small World © Kristye Addison Dudley
9" x 12" acrylic on paper

Day 30 - It's A Small World, the final painting of the 30 paintings in 30 day challenge.

I am so proud to have completed this challenge. Painting each day is such a commitment. But I grew so much during this month. I also have decided to continue to paint/sketch/explore daily.

In the spirit of this 30 day painting challenge, I decided to paint in a pop art style. Mark, my 20 month old son, was my muse for the day. I did a doodle of him after having a little dance party where he was wearing his groovy vest, Mardi Gras beads and of course his Mickey Crown.

Landscape Study Costa Rica by Contemporary Figurative Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

Detail of Landscape Study © Kristye Addison Dudley

Day 29 - Detail of landscape study

This is a detail of a portrait I am working on for a commission.

I used pallet knives and brushes to create the foliage. More work to do on some of the finer details, but I do like where it's going.

One more day in this 30 day challenge!

Watercolor Dancer Figure by Contemporary Figurative Fine Artist Kristye Addison Dudley

Watercolor Dancer © Kristye Addison Dudley
9" x 12" Watercolor on Paper
 Day 26 - Watercolor Dancer

I changed the medium to watercolor for Day 26. This is a very loose technique using brushes. I always find watercolor a challenge, it's very easy to get washed out colors, but this one still has some vibrancy.

Just 4 days left in the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge! The countdown has begun. It's time to start thinking of my next challenge. Any thoughts on subjects for May?
